Let's face it, consumer economies neccessarily involve sellers harrassing you.

That's why the trade channel is an inadequate solution, and so is the district idea. If you really want to solve this you have to tackle it at the source of the problem. You have to make it easy for sellers to offload their goods quickly and with little effort. Thus, an auction house. People looking for something specific can find it there, and it's so efficient that I'm sure people who are not interested in buying anything would still window shop from time to time just to see if any deals catch their eye.
You Ad Channel doesn't suit as an example because there is BUYERS AND SELLERS there. I like to go to trade channels (dis1,2,3) to see what selling for what amount these days and if your luckey you'll run into a guy with a good item u want whos is desperate to sell it

However if ppl would go to dis 1-3 for trade, 4,5,6 for other stuff automatically this problem would exist if we just change want dis we go to it just for quest, games, ect.

O and one more thing there IS an ad channel thats like sell jewelery or something so better use a better example cause people DO watch it

I must admit... you guys are bring up good suggestions . But i really wonder with any of the suggestions will work and help reduce the amount of traffic being advertised.
I just wonder if the people will use what is purposed if it does happen... (like what Undivine mention): take advertising for example, there will ever be a channel on TV just for advertising...simply because hardly anyone will be watching it. A trade district will work but there will always be people who will try and sell the items outside the district.
I see it as adding another lane to a busy road. It will just help decrese the flow of traffic but will not elimate the problem.
Just try and use districts that dont have alot of spamming with WTS or WTB.

True, there is a shopping channel. They sell things, and people who are interested in buying watch. But when did you last see them try to peddle Pepsi cola? Even they have to cater to a certain kind of audience. Namely the housewife (or house-hubby though they're not really shoppers).

I will sometimes be walking around Dorknar's Forge, and some guy advertises on the local channel for something. I have Trade turned off because I want to be able to read my whispers without them getting overwhelmed by spam, and also because I'm not interested in buying things at the moment. But this guy advertising on the local channel is actually selling something I want for a price I'm willing to pay. He just made a sale!

Advertisers are intereseted in selling things to people who are actively shopping, but there's a very big market in people who don't know they want it yet. This is why people do such things to dodge filtering. It's not because they're dumbasses. It's because they've been trying to sell a product on the trade channel for 4 hours now and are getting nowhere with it.

The auction house doesn't solve spam, per say, but it helps traders sell their wares efficiently, which means there will be less of them. They don't have to sit around town for several hours spamming, because they can sell their wares through the auction house even while they're offline or out adventuring.

And they will still somewhat reach the non-shopping audience because it's a lot easier to simply check up on prices every so often even if you're not shopping, than it is to wait a couple hours listening to spam to see what's going on. People won't do the latter, but they may do the former. In EQ I went to the bazaar occasionally just to see what's there. But before the Bazaar I never went to East Commons to listen to the spam.

And as for the auction house lag, that's not an issue in GW. WoW doesn't have multiple districts that can open and close based on influx, does it? I haven't played WoW, so I'm sort-of not really asking that rhetorically. Does it?

Districts solves that problem easily. I have never lagged from having so many people on screen at once in GW.

maybe xunlai agents would be good auction "houses" they are in every place so if it's crowded somewhere just move to a smaller place,

i think that a window like in Anarchy Online would sort alot out, it's a window where u put up that u search for a party, information abut ur char and a little text written by u would also be there. U then see other players that search for a party, party leaders who search for players can see and choose and players still not in a party and not searching but forming a party can pick players from there. If u do a quest u choose what quest(s) u want to do, u still have to get the from the npc:s that host them, and that would filter all parties not doing ur quest(s), else if u only want to help or farm u just search, no filter. if an auction thing and this window are made the chat is free from spamming (hopefully) and usable for socialising, everyone's happy

The solution is VERY, infact extremely, EASY.

Step one :

Limit a user's post in the trade channel to once per minute per campaign.

Step two :

Convert the "trade channel" in one campaign to a global channel where the messages are viewable by all citizens in all districts in all towns, missions towns, and outposts, of an entire campaign - with the above stated restriction in step one that a person only be allowed to post once every minute.

Tada, problem solved.

Points out the dates. Nuke refers to speculation of an auction house prior to Faction's release.

Can a mod close this now?

Ah... another issue the Xunlai Marketplace would completely solve...
Sometimes I wish I never heard that gossip.
Ignorance is bliss, isn't it?

Anyways, since I saw the Xunlai Marketplace gossip, I will not go for any other way, the Marketplace of the Gossip was just perfect.

It's own district, global search, filters, direct sales, listing for all items without traders...

It was perfect.
